With his backpack on, Rory followed Damon into his tattoo shop, The Burning Needle.

Their first stop that morning had been to the pack house to pick up his belongings. When Damon realized that he only had a few items of clothing, he’d added a stop at the mall to their list of things to do. It was strange that he’d only known Damon for a day, considering the connection he was feeling. In his twenty-five years of life, nobody had taken an active interest in his wants, needs, or desires.

With Damon, it seemed that was now a thing of the past.

As they stepped over the threshold of the tattoo shop, Rory looked around. There were beautiful drawings on the walls, plush, expensive-looking couches, and tile floors showing intricate designs throughout the entire shop.

Walking toward one of the walls, Rory inspected an ink drawing of two jaguars. “Did you draw this?”

“Nicholas did.” Damon came up behind him and wrapped his arms around Rory’s waist. “It’s the two of us.”

“You’re a beautiful cat.” Rory lifted a hand and ghosted his fingers over the glass. “I’d like to see you shift sometime.”

“You will.” Damon kissed Rory’s neck.

“I wasn’t expecting you to come in today.” Another voice joined them and Rory turned around and watched as Nicholas stepped out from the back. “I’ve already canceled or rescheduled all your appointments.”

“Thank you.”

Damon kissed Rory’s neck once more before he dropped his arms and walking toward his brother. The two men shared a secret handshake and Rory grinned. He loved the fact that Damon and Nicholas were close, but a pang of jealousy twisted his heart. He wished that he shared a similar relationship with his own brother.

“You don’t have to thank me. You met your mate. You should be at home.”

“I’m taking Rory to get his driver’s license today. He just moved to town, so I want to make sure he gets settled in with a bank account, and then we’re heading out to the mall. I want to spoil my mate.”

With that simple explanation, Rory felt like a normal guy. Damon didn’t look at him as if he were anything other than his mate, an equal.

“You’re a good mate.” Nicholas hit Damon with his shoulder before looking over at Rory. “You got yourself a good one here, man.” He winked.

“I know,” Rory agreed immediately.

He had no doubts about Damon. He knew that fate had blessed him by bringing the jaguar into his life.

“Are you interested in working here?” Nicholas asked.

Rory looked toward Damon. His mate smiled and Rory knew he was leaving the decision up to him. How many times had Rory wanted to make choices for himself? How many times had he been denied? This was all new to him. Rory finally had a little bit of power over his life and didn’t know what to say.

“Yes. I want to work with you and Damon.”
